David's Overview

Christopher will have great difficulty forming bonds with others because of his resentment towards them. Wikipedia says, “Human bonding is the process of development of a close, interpersonal relationship. It most commonly takes place between family members or friends, but can also develop among groups, such as sporting teams and whenever people spend time together”(Human Bonding). Christopher develop the interpersonal relationship with others if he despises them for understanding emotions. His resentment forms a separation between him and others because any emotion they show him will trigger his resentment. They will not be able to sympathize with him because he can not understand that emotion and frustrated even more. Resentment causes people to shut others out and that is what Christopher will do. He can not compute the complex emotions, so his emotions tend to take him over completely. He will not be able to form the complex emotions that will allow him to form deep bonds even with his resentment.

Christopher needs to learn how to deal with his stress, because it will continue to negatively affect him. The Help Guide says, “But when stress becomes overwhelming, it can damage your health, mood, relationships, and quality of life”(Segal). Christopher’s stress is causing him to make irrational decisions that are going to damage his relationship with his father. His lack of seeing other options, causes his stress to increase. He is trying to deal with all the stress he has on a limited amount of knowledge about the situation, which causes irrational decisions. Since he can not handle the stress he starts to become frustrated and overwhelmed. His irrational decisions have stemmed from the large amount of stress, and the stress is causing his mind not to work at the same level as it used to. He can not deal with the stress, so the stress is going to shape his mood and decisions.

Christopher would not be able to handle being in politics. Wikipedia says, “Many critics attack politicians for being out of touch with the public. Areas of friction include the manner in which politicians speak, which has been described as being overly formal and filled with many euphemistic and metaphorical expressions and commonly perceived as an attempt to ‘obscure, mislead, and confuse’”(Wikipedia). Christopher would not be able to stay in touch with the public, because he does not have the ability to see the public’s various and extremely different ideas. He would either crumble underneath all the different views or become severely separated from the public. He would fit right into what the critics claim of every other politician. Christopher would simply increase the “friction” between the government and the public. His views would not line up with every single person within the public, so he would see why the other views are important. Christopher could not understand what would be better for the public, but what would only be better for his beliefs.

Christopher does not completely grasp what love is. Love’s is defined as, “A profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person”(Dictionary.com). Without passionate affection, Christopher has trouble forming deeper bonds with other people. Christopher can only form the surface level bonds with people because he can not understand the passion needed to form long lasting bonds. Without being able to form those bonds, grasping the ideology behind love is even harder. Not only does his lack of passion affect his bonds with people, but he will not be able to be passionate about other things. Creating a simple life because of the lack of passion for people or things. Not understanding the passion behind love is giving Christopher a different life compared to if he had understood.

Donald Trump and Christopher are not capable of understanding other people’s emotions. Tom LoBianco says, “Donald Trump's attacks against Hillary Clinton are entering a new, more personal phase in an already raucous election season”(CNN). Donald Trump and Christopher are similar in that they can say cruel things about other people, but they have different intentions behind what they say. Trump has more cruel intentions behind his attack, unlike Christopher who does not know better. Christopher talks bluntly because his condition makes understanding other’s emotions difficult. Whereas Trump simply does not care how people feel about what he said causing him to appear incapable of understanding emotions. They both may talk rudely and bluntly, Trump has the capability to understand the reactions toward what he says. However he does not care causing him to appear insensitive.

Christopher is able to understand a dog’s emotions better than human emotions, and the University of Lincoln has recently discovered that dogs can understand basic human emotions. This unique predicament allows Christopher to create a bond with dogs. The University of Lincoln says, “For the first time, researchers have shown that dogs must form abstract mental representations of positive and negative emotional states, and are not simply displaying learned behaviours when responding to the expressions of people and other dogs”(Science Daily). Christopher is able to understand only the basic emotions of humans due to his disorder. Dogs are similar in that they can understand the basics of human emotions too. This is the reason that Christopher was able to for a bond with the dog, in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time, before it died because they were able to understand each other. With both of them at the same level of understanding emotions created empathy between them. The empathy is what really caused the formation of a bond between the two.
